KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had apparently met recently to discuss cooperating for the impending 15th general election.

The Vibes’ sister portal Getaran reported that the matter was revealed by Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who said the meeting took place some two weeks ago.

However, Mukhriz said Pejuang have yet to respond with their decision over the proposal.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin did come to meet Tun (Dr Mahathir) two weeks ago after the Johor polls. He was the one requesting to meet Tun, and Tun said ‘ok’ to the meeting.

“Currently there is an ‘approach’ but not whether we agree to it or not. Maybe what I can say for now is we are not so agreeable with what is being put forward,” he said on the sidelines of Pejuang’s settlement programme in Kuala Terengganu today.

The Jerlun MP added that Pejuang has also received offers from other opposition parties.

He asserted that his party remains open-minded and ready to set aside its old history with Bersatu if the goal is prioritising the people.

Most important, he said, is to cause the fall of Umno and to rid the country from continuously being ruled by kleptocratic factions.

“You have to understand, our wounds have yet to heal and still bleeds, but we understand for the sake of the nation and the people, there is nothing we are unwilling to do if the intentions are right.

“However, if the intentions are malicious, how are we to agree, for example, (we) won’t align with the intention of freeing oneself from the courts. From the beginning, we have said we do not want to conspire with them,” said Mukhriz. – The Vibes, March 31, 2022
